Wildlife Safe Fishing Kits and Recycling Stations Initiative

To address the growing harm caused by fish hooks and fishing lines to wildlife, EchoWild will launch an initiative to distribute Wildlife Safe Fishing Kits and install Fishing Line Recycling Stations at popular fishing spots. This two-pronged approach aims to minimize harm to wildlife, promote sustainable fishing practices, and build community engagement around conservation.

The kits will include:

1. Barbless Hooks: Reduce injury risk for unintended catches and wildlife.

2. Biodegradable Fishing Line: Designed to break down in the environment, preventing long-term harm to wildlife and ecosystems.

3. Line Cutters: Enable anglers to quickly free entangled wildlife.

4. Educational Materials:

• Instructions on safely handling accidental wildlife catches.

• Guidelines on responsible disposal of fishing gear.

• Information about EchoWild’s wildlife rescue services.

Fishing Line Recycling Stations

We will install fishing line recycling bins at popular fishing spots in East Hampton and nearby areas.

Purpose: Provide anglers with a convenient way to responsibly dispose of used fishing lines, preventing entanglement and ingestion by wildlife.

Locations: Initial installations will target piers, docks, and high-traffic fishing spots.

Design: The bins will be weather-resistant, easy to identify, and branded with EchoWild messaging to raise awareness.
